Kazakhstan Pipe Factory – SL-CNC4030 CNC Sample Preparation Machine for Pipe Sampling

2025-Dec-11

Background

A large pipe manufacturer in Kazakhstan runs a lab that handles many pipe samples every day. These samples come in different materials and sizes, including PE, PVC, and PPR.

Before tensile strength testing, sample preparation is the first and most critical step. The quality of the sample directly affects how accurate the test results will be.

Problem: Slow, Unstable, and Costly Sample Preparation

Before using the SL-CNC4030 universal sample preparation machine, the lab relied mainly on a manual dumbbell sample cutter. Several long‑standing issues kept coming up:

1. Complicated and slow process for pipe samples

Pipes are round. To cut a standard dumbbell-shaped sample from the pipe wall, they first had to split the pipe open, cut it into strips according to the required width, and then machine the dumbbell shape. One single sample took at least 30 minutes.

2. Heat from machining affected test results

When cutting plastic dumbbell samples with a milling cutter, friction creates heat. That extra heat changed the material properties, causing test results to drift.

3. Safety risks with manual operation

Manual sample preparation often led to cut fingers and other injuries. It was a real safety concern.

The Solution – SL-CNC4030 Changes Everything

After the lab brought in the SL-CNC4030, the way they prepare samples changed completely.

The machine uses CNC technology. A programmable controller runs a three‑axis motion system, driving the X, Y, and Z motors together with a high‑speed spindle. This creates a high‑precision machining system.

For pipe testing needs, the machine delivers:

- Dumbbell and rectangular samples – cut directly from the pipe. Smooth edges, accurate dimensions, fully compliant with tensile test standards.

- Custom shapes – the three‑axis system supports almost any shape. The lab can easily adjust to different testing standards.

- Fully automatic sampling – samples are taken directly from the pipe with one click. Easy operation, and much safer for operators.

- Coolant cooling during machining – coolant is applied to the cutting surface, keeping heat away and ensuring reliable tensile test results.

Results – Real Improvements in the Lab

Once the machine went into operation, sample preparation improved significantly:

1. Much higher sample quality

Before, the pass rate for manually made samples was only about 70%. Now it stays above 98%. Smaller dimensional deviations, no burrs on edges, and much better repeatability and reproducibility of test results.

2. More than double the efficiency

One dumbbell sample used to take 30 minutes. Now, after programming, it takes less than 10 minutes – and they can make several at once. Sample preparation is no longer the bottleneck in their testing process.

3. Fewer safety incidents

Hand injuries used to be common. Now, with the program pre‑set, operators only need to clamp the sample and start the machine. The risk of mechanical injury has dropped dramatically.

Customer Feedback

"Sample preparation used to be our biggest headache, especially curved samples from pipe walls – we could never get them right. After switching to your new sample preparation machine, all those problems went away at once. Now we prepare samples faster, more accurately, and more consistently. Our test data has never been more reliable."
