Q: What is the difference between motorized weight loading and manual weight loading?
A: Manual loading requires the operator to physically place the weight onto the piston, which
can cause slight timing delays and inconsistent piston positioning between tests. Motorized
weight loading uses a motor-driven mechanism to lower the weight smoothly and precisely
onto the piston at a controlled speed, eliminating operator variation and improving test repeatability.
Q: Does motorized loading improve test accuracy?
A: Yes. With manual loading, the timing of weight placement is subjective — different operators may
produce slightly different results. Motorized loading ensures that the weight is applied at a consistent
speed and position every time, reducing the standard deviation of MFR/MVR results, especially in
high-throughput labs running multiple tests per day.
Q: Can I still perform manual loading if the motorized system is not needed for a particular test?
A: Yes. The motorized loading system can be disengaged, allowing you to place weights manually when
preferred. This gives you full flexibility — use motorized loading for high-precision or multi-weight tests,
and manual mode for quick routine checks.
Q: What is the difference between MFR and MVR?
A: MFR (Melt Mass-Flow Rate) measures the mass of the extrudate in grams per 10 minutes. MVR
(Melt Volume-Flow Rate) measures the volume in cm³ per 10 minutes using a piston displacement sensor.
MVR does not require cutting and weighing the extrudate, making it faster and more repeatable.
Q: Can one machine test both MFR and MVR?
A: Yes. Our advanced model includes a piston displacement sensor and supports both MFR (manual
cut-and-weigh) and MVR (automatic displacement) modes.
Q: Do you support ASTM D1238 and ISO 1133 simultaneously?
A: Yes. The test parameters for both standards overlap significantly. Our equipment supports both standards
with preset test programs.
